Special session on
Deep Learning and a New Dawn for Machine Intelligence
Session Chairs
Prof. Walid Gomaa: Egypt Japan University of Science and Technology, walid.gomaa@ejust.edu.eg
Dr. Mohamed Khamis: Head of Data Science at IME, Al Shatha Tower, Office 2408, Dubai Media City, Dubai, 500223, United Arab Emirates.
The current hype in artificial intelligence dates back almost a decade ago when a sudden surgency of several technologies have emerged and driven that hype: (1) the advancement of high-performance computing machines, (3) the availability of huge amount of quality data driven by the decreasing cost and ubiquity of sensors in commodity devices, and (3) the algorithmic advancement of machine learning and optimization techniques. Since then, constant steady progress has been maintained and reached the media and the public with the resulting emerging applications carrying with them great hope and great fear as well. In this session we aim at giving a technical, philosophical, and ethical introduction to this thriving technology that would very much shape the future of our society in the coming decades. The topics include, but not limited to:
- State-of-the-art deep architectures: GANs (Generative Adversarial Networks),
Transformers, Normalizing Flows, foundational models, etc.
- Human activity recognition systems.
- Applications in healthcare.
- Applications in robotics.
- Autonomous driving.
- Industry 4.0.
- Smart cities.
- Intelligent Transportation Systems.
- Ethical considerations of intelligent systems
- Natural language processing and understanding, especially the Arabic language.
